Well, this was a school project. I have withdrawn from college, so now I get to say and do exactly as I want here.

And right now I want to say life sucks a big fat hairy donkey dick covered in whipped cream gone bad.

I think I'm having a nervous break down.

It's that time.
Yes.
It's the dreaded Theme Day.

All the good blogs have them, you know. Don't worry. I'll hold your hand and guide you through. It won't hurt a bit!

Hump Day Helpers

Oh yeah. By the middle of the week, we all need inspiration to make it through. You barely survived Monday, Tuesday passed in a blur, and now it's Wednesday, the dreaded Hump. The middle day. Once it's over, you can feel the fresh breeze of the weekend on your face. But first, you gotta climb the Hump. So I’m going to help you.
What is a Humpday Helper, you ask? It is a little bit of sunshine to brighten your day. A useful piece of information. A funny joke. An interesting bit of trivia. It just a little pick-me-up to make the climb over the Hump just a tiny bit easier.
Every Wednesday (Hump Day), I will post something that will make you smile. I hope. I smiled. But I’ve been told my sense of humor is quirky.
First, for my friend who goes to his neighborhood pub for Wednesday Quiz Bowls, here is a link to QuizBalls.com,  to help all you trivia freaks brush up and win that big, pretty trophy.

And todays Humpday funny:

Thank you, verydemotivational.com. You always come through for a chortle.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
One of the best series ever.
I know it sounds ridiculous.
I know it sounds...well, stupid.
I love this show.

Joss Whedon, the creator, is a talented, kinda twisted, a lot quirky genius.
The dialogue is fast, witty, and full of slang and expressions that have become part of pop culture language: nerd much?

The series ended after 7 seasons, spawned a spin-off show, and left Buffy fans mourning the loss of the Buffyverse. Here's one of my favorite websites dedicated to all things Scooby (Buffy slang for their group...meddling kids!). You might sound nerdy if you admit to loving it, but those of us who get it know your cool points just skyrocketed.

I first found Buffy while working on the Indiana Toll Road in Radio Control. As a dispatcher, there is loads of time to fill between calls. My fellow operator, Heather, kept going on and on about Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I was not impressed. With a name like that, how could it be good? It had to be as ridiculous as it's name. Heather loved it so much, she bought the first season and brought it in to watch. I was immediately hooked. I had seen the movie and it was amusing, but the series was amazing! Sarah Michelle Gellar played Buffy perfectly. I quickly fell in love with nerdy Willow and dorky Xander, Buffy's first two friends and the original Scoobies. Rupert Giles, Buffy's Watcher, brought just the right amount of adult incredulity at the antics of the teens to make the premise of the show believable. With each addition to the core gang, unique and interesting characters were developed and the storyline became more intricate and sophisticated.

Yeah, the show's title sounds ridiculous. And the show is ridiculous. Buffy never took itself too seriously and had fun with itself. It has a loyal cult following and will continue to do so as Buffy geeks pass on their DVD collections to their little brothers and sisters, sons and daughters. I cried at the series finale. I just didn't want to see it end.

How about you: got a 'nerd' show to share?

January 31, 2012

Today is the first day of the rest of my blog. Yes, I went there. Ummm, wasn't kidding about the whole dork/nerd thing. But see, I own those descriptions. I have learned that, frankly, we are all dorky or nerdy or uncool in some way, shape or form...and that's what makes us cool.

Yep, sounds like an After School Special, but really it's just the wisdom of growing up.
